FAQ
1) Where can I find out more? Right here!We want to make reading as simple and comfortable as possible. So that your eBooks travel from our shop via a simple download to your reader as quickly and smoothly as possible, we have summarized and naturally also answered the most frequently asked questions surrounding the eBook topic.
An eBook is a book in its digital form. In our shop we offer eBooks as EPUB and PDF files. Both files are international standards for ebooks and have proved successful as specialist books (PDF) and as fiction books (EPUB). You can read eBooks on nearly all mobile devices that offer a software for "electronic reading". If you purchase an eBook with copy protection, you have to ensure that your software supports the reading of eBooks with copy protection.
You can buy eBooks 24/7 and begin reading them immediately. Whether at home or on vacation. eBooks are available on demand worldwide and can be transferred to your computer, E-Reader, smartphone or Tablet-PC within minutes. The download is fast thanks to the small file size and you can easily store thousands of books on an E-Reader (for example). Naturally you can also search within eBooks for text passages, add notes, set bookmarks and much more besides. eBooks are also often cheaper than the printed version, with the publishers setting the price, and are subject to the German law governing book pricing (§ 2 Par. 1 BuchPrG).
in PDF file format?
EPUB is a standard file format for eBooks. EBooks in EPUb format can play dynamic content and are optimized for use on mobile reading devices. The text is automatically adjusted to fit the screen size of the device
PDF is a platform-independent format for the exchange of text and images. PDF files are used especially for specialist books, but can also be displayed perfectly on all common E-Readers.
A digital watermark allows the publisher to recognize the unauthorized exchange of eBooks on the Internet. Yet, at the same time, a digital watermark is devised such that the owner/reader is not unnecessarily restricted in their use of the book. This means, for example, that they can copy it to as many of their readers as they wish. You can read eBooks protected by a digital watermark on any E- Reader that supports the format (.epub/.pdf).
4.1.1.1) Do I need Adobe Digital Editions to read an ebook with a watermark? No, you do not. You only need a normal PDF reader or software that can read Epub files.
Adobe DRM allows publishers to add digital rights to copyrighted e-books. This rights management determines whether an eBook may be printed or how many copies can be transferred to reading devices. By default, only a limited number of pages can be printed or copied via "copy & paste". eBooks protected by Adobe DRM require the Adobe Digital Editions software for displaying on a reading device. In the meantime, there is other software available for displaying eBooks protected by Adobe DRM. Please check before purchasing a DRM eBook that you can use the eBook on your device.
Adobe Digital Editions is a free reader software made available by Adobe, for reading DRM-protected eBooks.
The eBook reader software can be downloaded for free on the Adobe website. Before you install the software please set up an Adobe-ID on https://www.adobe.com/ "Sign in to My Adobe". The current english Version of "Adobe Digital Editions" can be found on http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/. During the installation process of "Adobe Digital Editions" you'll be asked for your Adobe-ID. At this point please enter your Adobe-ID and skip this step on no account.
Precise instructions can be found here.
Do I still need Adobe Digital Editions?
Yes, DRM-protected eBooks can only be opened by Adobe Digital Editions or with a comparable product.
Adobe Digital Editions is currently compatible with the following Windows operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows 7
- Microsoft Windows Vista
- Microsoft Windows XP
- Mac OS X from version v.10.4
The Linux operating system is currently not compatible with the Adobe software.
Problems may also occur with the Apple iphone and iPad.
What is that?
Adobe Digital Editions assigns your E-Books to a certain computer. An Adobe-ID is a user account that is created when you register online. Creating an Adobe ID is free of charge and takes only a few minutes. Simply state your name, country and an e-mail address. This allows you to make back-ups and to copy E-Books onto another E-Reader or other device. Create your Adobe-ID when you are requested to do so during the authorization process on your computer with Digital Editions, or using your account on the Adobe website.
If you do not register with Adobe, your digital content will be assigned to the computer you use to download the eBook and not to your personal account. You will then be unable to make back-ups or transfer your E-Books to other devices, e.g. the OYO or a Sony Reader.
at a later date?
Digital Editions contains the menu option "authorize computer ", which can be carried out any time after installation.
While it is possible to copy DRM-protected E-Books onto another computer, e.g. as an e-mail attachment or via USB stick, these E-Books cannot be opened/read by other people. Digital Rights Management protects the publishers against pirated copies.
However, using the Adobe Digital Editions software and your Adobe ID you can read your E-Books on several computers and reading devices. You only have to log in so as to verify that you are the rightful owner of the E-Books. You can activate up to six devices (PCs, notebooks, tablet-PCs, smartphones, etc.).
If your reader has an internet connection, you can also download the eBooks direktly from our shop.
To copy E-Books from your computer to your E-Reader you need to authorize your E-Reader with the same Adobe ID that you used to register your computer. This is very simple: Open the Adobe Digital Editions program and connect your E-Reader to the computer. Adobe Digital Editions will recognize your E-Reader and ask you whether you want to authorize your device using the Adobe ID of your computer. Once you've confirmed this, your computer and E-Reader are authorized with the same Adobe ID and you can easily transfer DRM-protected media from the computer to your E-Reader.
You have now successfully completed all the steps needed by the software.
Open the Adobe Digital Editions program. In the library view you will see your eBooks as covers or in displayed in the list view. Double-click on a book to open it.
Ensure that you have correctly carried out the authorization process. A downloaded eBook can be read using your Adobe ID on up to six reading devices. Opening and reading on a seventh device is unfortunately not possible.
Due to the DRM protection you are not allowed to print eBooks or to copy them, e.g. on a USB stick to another computer or send via e-mail. But with Adobe Digital Editions you can read your eBooks on up to six different devices

"I haven't received an E-Book but instead I get a file called URL.acsm?" Or: "My E-Book is only 1.5 kB?" When you buy a DRM-protected work, you only get a file with the .acsm extension to begin with, not the book itself. This file contains the instructions for the Adobe Digital Editions program, which takes care of your download and the management of your protected books. Install Adobe Digital Editions, available for free from the Adobe website, and open the URLLink.ascm file using this program.
or my e-Pub reader.
DRM-protected eBooks can not be read with every PDF or ePub Reader. They require a program that is able to open and display DRM- protected books. To enable this, you can download the free software Adobe Digital Editions from the Adobe website, for example.
What is the meaning of this error?
It is possible that your eReader was authorized using somebody else's ID. Here you should try to de-authorize and re-authorize the reader using Adobe Digital Editions (ADE).
How to proceed?
Open ADE and connect the eReader. Select (click on) the eReader in the bar on the left below the library, then press STRG, SHIFT and E simultaneously. Now disconnect the eReader from the PC and close ADE. Then restart ADE and reconnect the eReader, and you should be asked for authorization. Carry this out using the e-mail address (your user details for Adobe Digital Edition) which you used to register the eBooks. You will now have to add the eBooks again in ADE and then transfer them from here. Copying them directly from the folder usually fails to work. Transferring DRM-protected files only seems to work via ADE.
